Ginger is a root herb that grows native to South America and Africa. It is the roots called the tuberous rhizome that are used therapeutically.

Contraindications

Avoid using during pregnancy. There is some concern due to preliminary evidence that ginger might affect foetal sex hormones, and an anecdotal reports of spontaneous abortion in a patients who used ginger for morning sickness.
