Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in the body, and is involved in more metabolic processes than any other amino acid. Although classified as a non-essential amino acid, glutamine is essential for maintaining intestinal health and the immune response during times of severe stress, suggesting that it should be called conditionally essential.
